While some of this work might be translatable to *BSD, the fact of the matter remains that the movie, television, and cable industries do not actually want CableCard to work. A new version of Media Center is expected to ship as a standard feature in Windows Vista, not requiring a separate OS.Longer Answer: The XBMC and MythTV crowd have done some work to get CableCard tuners to work in Linux. To date, Microsoft has sold nearly four million Windows XP Media Center Edition licenses, and 130 PC manufacturers worldwide offer computers equipped with the software.
